Statistics Department Welcomes New Faculty

Hunter Glanz

Hunter Glanz and Maddie Schroth-GlanzI was excited to join the Statistics Department here in fall 2014. It's been a pleasure to get started with classes like STAT 312 and 218. I'm especially grateful to have had the opportunity to teach our SAS course in winter, which has me thinking about how to teach computing/programming well. I look forward to attending the AP reading in June for my third time.

Maddie Schroth-Glanz

Before starting at Cal Poly in the fall, I spent a year teaching at the community college level, and switching to a university has brought with it many interesting challenges. The students are different as well as the material, but I have really enjoyed adapting my teaching to this new environment. I greatly appreciate the opportunity to teach the same course again in order to improve and hone my skills.

Shannon McClintock Pileggi

Shannon McClintock PileggiI grew up in Raleigh, N.C., and spent the past 10 years at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga., first as a doctorate student in biostatistics and then as a lecturer in the Institute for Quantitative Theory and Methods. My previous work experience includes positions at the American Cancer Society and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. My research interests include spatial disease modeling, statistics pedagogy and incorporating technology into the classroom. In the spring of 2014 and 2015, I organized Emory’s ASA DataFest, and I am also a contributing member of the OpenIntro project, a free resource for introductory statistics material for students and instructors. My husband and I have been impressed with the warm welcome from the Cal Poly community, and we are both excited about our new professional positions and the prospects of outdoor adventures on the West Coast. You will definitely find us out hiking with the dogs, at the disc golf course, and at regular golf courses, and we’ll be looking for a soccer team.

Dennis Sun

Dennis SunI'm excited to be joining the Cal Poly Statistics Department in winter 2016. I earned my undergraduate degree in music and mathematics at Harvard, and I am currently finishing up a doctorate in statistics at Stanford. My research interests range from statistical methods for music processing to statistics education, which is a noted strength of the Cal Poly department. I also enjoy hiking, running, baseball and trivia — all of which I look forward to enjoying on the Central Coast!
