Stat Club 2011-12 and the Future

The Stat Club will continue its tradition of Shack Night during the 2012-13 school year. Students and faculty members meet at The Shack, a sports bar located on Foothill Boulevard. Shack Night is a wonderful way for students and faculty members to enjoy each other's company in a non-academic setting. People can order burgers or catch their favorite team playing on one of the many TVs in the restaurant. The get-togethers are a great opportunity for students to bridge cross-class gaps and get to know other statistics majors they haven't met in class. In addition, the students can get to know their professors' extra-statistical interests such as their favorite sports teams and television shows.

The Stat Club also hopes to plan more social activities both on and off campus, such as pick-up sports games and movie nights.

The club has also re-kindled the Stat Buddy program in which older stat majors are paired with incoming freshmen or transfer students and provide advice and direction to the new students. This year, students with similar interests were paired so that older students could pass on information on possible minors.
