Saying Goodbye — Lina Ignatova
Only a year ago I left Cal Poly and all of you with a strong wish to be back in San Luis Obispo. The four years we worked together in this beautiful California town were very important to me, and I was happy to start my family there.
It is astonishing how life changes and we have to re-evaluate our values and rearrange our priorities.
Today, I am holding my little four-month-old, Sofia, in my hands, and I want to share with you that my family has built a stable and happy home here in Greensboro, N.C. Together we experience the most beautiful things, with hard work and satisfaction. My husband and I both needed this balanced life to welcome our new arrival.
At this moment I have to give priority to my husband’s academic path and put mine on hold for one more year in order to keep my family together, raise our daughter and prepare for some possible professional changes.
It was very hard to decide to leave my tenure-track position in Cal Poly’s Statistics Department as I enjoyed being a member of it and am going to miss it. I will always remember both the good and the difficult moments we went through, and I appreciate everything I learned as a statistics teacher, as a colleague and as a friend. I will keep in touch and hope our professional paths will cross some day soon!
Thank you all for the time we shared!
